Background:

Kahlan was an only child her mother died shortly after she was born. Her father moved them for a long time and it seemed every town he would get more and more drunk. When she was about 12 he started telling her it was her fault her mother died. Soon he started beating her and later raped her. He gambled so when ever he was out of money he would put her up which he would usually loose. He went into debt so far he sold Kahlan off to the Queens brothel making a deal to be able to come there every three months to be with his daughter for a night.
